Identified as a YES Scholar in 6th grade at TEACH
Academy in South Los Angeles, Ashanti graduated from
St. Bernard High School and is a senior Biochemistry
major at UCLA. She is a member of the UCLA Program
for Excellence in Education and Research in the Sciences
(PEERS), a Student Researcher in a Molecular and
Medical Pharmacology lab, and serves as Treasurer of
UCLA’s Pre-Pharmacy Society. She studied abroad in
Granada, Spain, and volunteers at the Veteran Home of
California in West LA.
Born and raised in Lennox, Juan attended Chadwick
School and Amherst College, where he interned for
Senator Elizabeth Warren and was a Mellon Research
Fellow, collaborating on five academic papers on topics
including the impact of Europe’s natural gas market on
EU-Russia relations, and Latin American market reforms.
After graduating with a BS in Political Science &
Government and International Relations, Juan served as
Partnerships Manager at the London Stock Exchange
Group and is now an MBA candidate at The University of
Chicago Booth School of Business. He regularly supports
younger Scholars, hosting financial literacy workshops,
and providing interview prep and resume feedback.
As a 6th grader, Sophya petitioned Lennox Middle School
to host its first science fair. She then became the first to
represent the school at the LA Science Fair, California
Science Fair, and the Broadcom National Science Fair.
